Twenty Socks in a Drawer

A girl had twenty socks in a drawer. There were ten red socks and ten green ones. One night, just as she was going to take out a pair of socks, the lights went out. If she wants to get a pair of the same color, red or green, what is the smallest number of socks she must take out of the drawer? Assume that the socks are all mixed up.

Soseki's Books

On the shelf stand volumes 1, 2, and 3 of the first edition of Soseki's I Am a Cat. The books have been lying there for a long time, and moths have dug a tunnel from page one of volume 1 to the last page of volume 3. The paper in each volume is 3 centimeters thick and its cover is 1 centimeter (front and back covers are 5 millimeters each). Can you tell how long the tunnel is?
